Bonny Eagle takes 2019 North Title back to MaineExeter - The North Regional proved to be diverse and deep field. No team benefited from that depth more then the Andover Golden Warriors who made it all the way to finals before falling to Bonny Eagle 18-7. Heading into the last game of pool play Andover appeared to be heading home, due to the tie breaker rules, if Concord NH could beat win less Bow NH. But Bow was able to upset Concord thus sending Andover to the playoffs. Once in, Andover beat Lynn Classical, Swampscott and the always competitive BB&N to reach the finals.
Waiting in the final was Bonny Eagle from Maine. The Scot's had sweep their pool and beaten Timberlane NH, Methuen MA and Woburn MA in the playoffs to reach the finals. In the final both Andover and Bonny Eagle struggled to score early. Bonny Eagle broke the ice with with ten minutes left. The conversion failed but they had a 6-0 lead and momentum which their defense used to quickly get another stop. The Scot's wasted no time building the lead to 12-0 but another failed conversion left the door open for Andover. The Warriors finally got on the scoreboard and collected the conversion to cut the lead to 12-7. Bonny Eagle needed a first down to ice the game but Andover was able to hold and with less than a minute left returned to offense. After a quick completion, the Warriors fired a shot for the end zone. It was intercepted and returned for a touchdown to account for the final score of 18-7. Overall it was a great day for Maine as Marshwood and Wells also made the playoffs. Timberlane was the only New Hampshire team to advance to the playoffs. Thank you to Exeter High School again for being such a great host! Best of luck to all the teams this season. |

Suffield Academy Steals the Show at 2018 North Regional |
7/14/2018 - There were plenty of surprises during Saturday’s Northeast 7-on-7 North Regional, but the team that won the regional championship wasn’t one of them.
Suffield (Conn.) Academy, a team led by four-star recruit Tyler Van Dyke, won the tournament title by beating Milton (Mass.) High School 20-18 in the championship game. Van Dyke, a 6-foot-4 quarterback, has scholarship offers from Boston College, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Massachusetts, Michigan, N.C. State, Rutgers and Syracuse. Milton was one of the tournament’s surprises, since the team wasn’t even sure it would be participating until late Friday night. Milton replaced Portsmouth R.I., which dropped out of the 38-team field Friday. Milton went toe-to-toe with Suffield, but what originally looked like a complete pass on a two-point conversion on the game’s final play was nullified when it was ruled the receiver had one foot out of bounds when he made the catch. After advancing out of pool play to the single-elimination portion of the tournament Suffield defeated Methuen (Mass.), Woburn (Mass.) and BB&N (Mass.) to reach the championship game. By winning the North Regional, Suffield earned an automatic spot in the New England championship, which will be held July 26 at Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood, Mass. The New England championship will also feature teams from the South Regional and East Regional. The semifinal matchups in the North Regional were Suffield vs. BB&N, and Milton vs. Amesbury (Mass.). Amesbury, coached by 2008 Exeter High School graduate Colin McQueen, was one of the tournament’s biggest surprises, especially since the Indians were not at full strength for the competition. McQueen’s father, Kevin McQueen, is Exeter’s varsity baseball coach. The biggest surprise from New Hampshire was Kingswood, a Division III program that advanced out of pool play to the Round of 16 before losing to BB&N. Exeter and Timberline were the only other New Hampshire teams that advanced out of pool play. Winnacunnet, last year’s North Regional champion, went 3-1, but lost a tiebreaker and didn’t make it to the Round of 16. |

North Regional Resolution PlanWe want to thank everybody for their patience and professionalism during a difficult situation with Saturday's weather. Since the radar showed several hours of delays we decided to come up with another plan to benefit everyone. The weather just wasn't something we wanted to mess with and we didn't want to put anyone in warms way.
This is PLAN; If you still had a chance at the playoffs (20 teams) you will be invited to the New England Championship and will be scheduled for a minimum of 3 games, then playoffs. The last North team standing will be the North Champion. If you did not get a 4th game and were out the playoffs you will receive $50 discount on next year's registration. We understand that some of your players are seniors and will not benefit from this but they received the gear, 3 games and time does not allow for another option. If you have other questions please call me directly. We hope everyone understands that months of prep work and staffing of 35 plus people are designed to give the kids a great safe experience and free Under Armour gear worth four times your admission. Good luck this fall. 2012 Methuen knocks off Pingree in a classic
Pingree proves you can make a run!The Pingree School after committing late to the regional, finishing third in pool play and only having 7 players, came within 8 seconds of winning the North Regional Saturday. As a finalist Pingree earned an automatic berth to the New England Championship, but left a strong impression on everyone they played.
Tournament Director, Steve Dembowski, said it was "the best run he has seen nine years of play" and was "blown away by the mental toughness shown by players fighting cramps". At one point in the final Pingree was playing with only 6 players and came within one play of pulling the greatest upset in tournament history. Something tells me Coach Powers will have another strong season this fall. |
